Assembly- & disassembly instructions hubs
Attention: As of January 2024, our bearings have been improved – they now offer a bit more reliability, better materials, and better seals.
There are two variants: Standard (or ABEC-5) and Ceramic (XD-15). The standard bearings are wear parts and will need to be replaced eventually, depending on how and where you ride. The ceramic bearings offer a lifetime warranty and are worry-free.
For the standard bearings (or ABEC-5), there are two different seals: a non-contact one in black and a contact one in gray. Please always mount the gray seal outward. This ensures good rolling and also provides good protection.

Introduction
Our components are high-end parts and must always be assembled and used in accordance with the user manual. Please read this manual carefully and follow the instructions. If you are not confident with the assembly, please contact your dealer.
In case of problems with the function of the product, it must not be used. In this case, contact your dealer immediately!

The basic structure of our hubs and freewheels can be understood using exploded views below.
Lacing of hubs
The geometrical data required for lacing can be found in the spoke length calculator on our website.
Lacing may only be carried out byqualified specialists. Incorrectly spoked wheels pose a risk of injury!
The max. spoke tension of the hub must be observed when lacing. The values for our hubs can be found on the respective product page on our website.
Freehub note
Our freewheel bodies are made of aluminum and can therefore show notches when used with cassettes made of individual sprockets. These notches pose no reason for complaint and can be removed with a file. Stuck sprockets can be removed using two chain whips.
Notching can be reduced if the cassette is installed with the correct torque!Too little torque leads to stronger notches!
Black freehubs with 6 pawls (6T) are intended exclusively for road and gravel use and are not suitable for MTB use.
Assembly cassette
The cassette must be installed according to the manufacturer's instructions. When inserting the locking ring, ensure that it is correctly seated in the thread. To do this, make the first turns by hand.
Important note on changing the freewheel
Whenchanging the freewheel standard, e.g. from Sram XDR to Shimano Microspline, the endcap on the drive sidemust also be replaced! After changing the freewheel and end cap, it is necessary to adjust the hub again!

- QR5 endcap for 10-speed (Hg10) and XD freehubs - Overall length: 16,1mm, Inner depth: 9,2mm
- QR5 endcap for 11-speed (Hg11), XDR and Campagnolo freehubs (groove on the endcap used for identification) - Overall length: 16,4mm, Inner depth: 8,5mm
- QR5 endcap for MicroSpline and N3W - Overall length: 20,35mm, Inner depth: 12,45mm
- 12mm endcap for 10-speed (Hg10) and XD freehubs - Overall length: 15mm, Inner depth: 8,9mm
- 12mm endcap for 11-speed (Hg11), XDR and Campagnolo freehubs (groove on the endcap used for identification) -

The hub consists of the following components:
- Axle with pressed-on end cap - depending on the version, suitable for the hub body and axle standard.
- 2x Bearing 61803 (17x26x5mm) - depending on the version, as standard or hybrid-ceramic bearings.
- Hub body - depending on the version for J-bend or straightpull spokes, with 6-Bolt or Centerlock brake disc interface and in different colours and hole counts.
- Bearing shims - the amount and thickness of the shims depends on the measured axle protrusion. The shim washers are used to adjust the axial play.
- Drive side end cap.

The hub consists of the following components:
- Mandrel for the Lefty fork (not part of the hub).
- Spacer - simplifies the removal of the hub from the mandrel.
- Bearing 61805 (25x37x7mm).
- Hub body - for J-bend spokes, with 6-Bolt brake disc interface and in different colours and hole counts.
- Bearing 61802 (15x24x5mm).
- Fastening screw - secures the hub on the mandrel.
- Cover cap - serves as an abutment for the fastening screw when removing the hub from the mandrel. Attention: left-hand thread!
The Cannonball hub is shipped with shims. The shims are used to adjust the play of the hub on the Lefty mandrel. The shims are placed under the bearings to eliminate play.

The hub consists of the following components:
- Axle with pressed-on end cap - depending on the version, suitable for the hub body and axle standard.
- Bearing 61803 (17x26x5mm) - depending on the version, as standard or hybrid-ceramic bearings.
- Hub body - depending on the version for J-bend or straightpull spokes, with 6-Bolt or Centerlock brake disc interface and in different colours and hole counts.
- Titanium drive ring - screwed to the hub body and can only be removed with a special tool.
- Bearing 61903 (17x30x7mm) - depending on the version, as standard or hybrid-ceramic bearings.
- Freewheel - see separate exploded view!
- Bearing shims - the amount and thickness of the shims depends on the measured axle protrusion. The shim washers are used to adjust the axial play.
- Drive side end cap - depending on the version, suitable for the hub body and axle standard.
Exploded view for freewheels
The following drawing shows the structure of the freewheel for the current generation of hubs with 17mm axle diameter: Exploded view freewheel
- Full-ball bearing 61803 (17x26x5mm) - Special bearing with increased load rating. A full-ball bearing or a XD-15 bearing from Enduro Bearings MUST be installed at this position!
- Inner sleeve - only for Shimano Microspline and Campagnolo N3W freewheels!
- Axial locking ring - only for Shimano Microspline and Campagnolo N3W freewheels! The ring is assembled and disassembled with pliers for retaining rings.
- Bearing 61803 (17x26x5mm)- depending on the version, as standard or hybrid-ceramic bearings.
- Titanium pawls - 3 or 6 pieces depending on the version.
- Pawl springs - 3 or 6 pieces depending on the version. Attention: the pawl springs for freewheels with 3 and 6 pawls differ and are not compatible with each other!
- Freewheel body - depending on the version for different cassette standards and areas of application.
- Sprocket-stopper-ring - depending on the version for different freewheel bodies and made of plastic or carbon.
- Bearing shims - the amount and thickness of the shims depends on the measured axle protrusion. The shim washers are used to adjust the axial play.
- Drive side end cap - depending on the version, suitable for the hub body and axle standard.
Whenassembling the pawl spring, make sure that theorientation is correct, as shown in the drawing! Anincorrectly installedspring cannot reset the pawl correctly and lead todefects!
Assembly brake disc
The brake discs must be installed according to the manufacturer's specifications. The max. tightening torques can be found in the section on tightening torques.
The following applies for 6-hole brake discs:
- Always tighten screws crosswise.
- Remaining screw locking compound from prior assemblies must be removed from the thread of the hub before assembly!
- The screws for fastening the brake disc should be secured against loosening with a medium-strength threadlocking compound (e.g. LOCTITE® 243).
The following applies for Centerlock brake discs:
- The hubs are delivered without a lockrings. They must be purchased separately!
- Screw in the locking ring by hand to avoid jamming in the thread. If the ring can only be screwed in with force, do not turn it any further and check that it is correctly positioned in the thread!
- After tightening the locking ring, the brake disc must not have any axial play! If there is axial play, repeate the assembly or contact your local dealer for support!
After installing the brake discs for the first time, the tightening torques should be checked again after 25km.
Tightening torques
All screws and connectors must always be mounted with acalibrated torque wrenchin compliance with the maximum torques! Non-compliance with the torque specifications can lead todefects and injuries!
Lubricants
Specialized lubricants are used in our hubs. The use of incorrect lubricants can impair the function and lead to defects. We recommend the use of the following lubricants:
Pawl seats of the freehub body : MOLYKOTE® G-Rapid Plus Paste
Drive ring, inner bearing rings : MOLYKOTE® Longterm 2 Plus Extreme Pressure Bearing Grease
Labyrinth seal between hub body and freewheel body : Oil 10W-40
In order to ensure the correct function of the rear hub,no grease should be applied to the back of the pawlsto prevent them from sticking!
Compatibility
Our hubs are compatible with most bikes on the market; however, some very specific parts are not compatible and their combined use with Tune hubs can cause problems. Here is a non-exhaustive list:

Intended use
Our products are designed and tested according to the current standards, which define the safety requirements and test methods for mountain bikes off-road and racing bikes for amateur use on public roads. In both cases, the standards for bikes with adjustable saddle height with a minimum saddle height of 635mm apply.
The standards mentioned do not apply to special types of bicycles such as tandems or bicycles which are used for special applications such as tough competition, stunts or acrobatics.
The standards also do not apply to bicycles with a saddle height ≤ 435mm and a saddle height between 435mm and 635mm.
Please note that our products may only be used in the amateur sector under normal conditions.
Storage & transport
When storing or transporting tune components for a longer period of time, follow these guidelines:
- Components must be stored and transported at a temperature of 15-30°C and max. 70% relative humidity.
- Components must not be exposed to direct or indirect sunlight. Ideally, storage and transport take place in a dark place or covered.
- Avoid large temperature fluctuations, e.g. in a car parked in the sun. Torques must be checked again after storage or transport with large temperature differences to ensure proper function.
- Components must be cleaned and checked for proper function before storage. Before the next operation, a new check for functionality must be carried out.
- Wheels should be stored and transported with the tyres fitted. The mounted tyre reduces the spoke tension and thus the load on the hub flange.
- Do not hang up carbon rims or entire bicycles, as the point load can cause permanent damage to the rim.
- Do not hang up stored bicycles by the saddle to reduce the load on the saddle and seat post.
