Assembly preparation
Before you can start with the assembly, the compatibility of the steerer tube and handlebar must be checked:
- Use a digital caliper to measure the outside dimensions of your head tube all around. The stem is designed for 1 ⅛ inch (28.6mm) head tubes. If your head tube has a different dimension, the stem cannot be used!
- Use a digital caliper to measure the outside dimensions of your handlebar all around. The stem is designed for 31,8mm handlebars. If your handlebar has a different dimension, the stem cannot be used!
Mounting the stem
The manufacturer's instructions for the fork and handlebar must be observed when assembling the stem!The Geiles Teil 4.0 stem issuitable for inverted (flip-flop) mounting.If the stem is clamps acarbon head tube or carbon handlebar, acarbon assembly pasteshould be applied to the clamping surfaces. The pasteincreases the frictionand thus allows a lower torque which prolongs the lifetime of carbon components.
After completing the assembly preparations with a positive result, follow these steps to mount the stem:
- Loosen or remove the screws of the handlebar clamp in order to be able to insert the handlebar later.
- Slightly loosen the screws of the steerer clamp in order to open it all the way.
- Place the stem on the head tube and align it. Before the stem is tightened, the headset must be adjusted. You can find information regarding the headset adjustment in the instructions for your headset or frame.
- Insert the handlebar into the stem, align it and slightly tighten the clamping screws on the stem plate.
- Tighten the screws of the handlebar clamp alternately crosswise as shown in the illustration. Pay attention to the maximum tightening torque! The gaps on the top and bottom of the handlebar clamp must be equal!
6. After adjusting the headset, tighten the steerer clamp screws. Pay attention to the maximum tightening torque!

All screws and connectors must always be mounted with acalibrated torque wrenchin compliance with the maximum torques! Non-compliance with the torque specifications can lead todefects and injuries!

Intended use
Our products are designed and tested according to the current standards, which define the safety requirements and test methods for mountain bikes off-road and racing bikes for amateur use on public roads. In both cases, the standards for bikes with adjustable saddle height with a minimum saddle height of 635mm apply.
The standards mentioned do not apply to special types of bicycles such as tandems or bicycles which are used for special applications such as tough competition, stunts or acrobatics.
The standards also do not apply to bicycles with a saddle height ≤ 435mm and a saddle height between 435mm and 635mm.
Please note that our products may only be used in the amateur sector under normal conditions.
Storage & transport
When storing or transporting tune components for a longer period of time, follow these guidelines:
- Components must be stored and transported at a temperature of 15-30°C and max. 70% relative humidity.
- Components must not be exposed to direct or indirect sunlight. Ideally, storage and transport take place in a dark place or covered.
- Avoid large temperature fluctuations, e.g. in a car parked in the sun. Torques must be checked again after storage or transport with large temperature differences to ensure proper function.
- Components must be cleaned and checked for proper function before storage. Before the next operation, a new check for functionality must be carried out.
- Wheels should be stored and transported with the tyres fitted. The mounted tyre reduces the spoke tension and thus the load on the hub flange.
- Do not hang up carbon rims or entire bicycles, as the point load can cause permanent damage to the rim.
- Do not hang up stored bicycles by the saddle to reduce the load on the saddle and seat post.

Mounting the grips to your handlebar
Follow the steps below to mount the grips to your handlebar:
- Remove old grips. Unmount the bar plugs. Clean the handlebar.
- Submerge the handlebar grips in soapy water for a few seconds.
- Cover the grips with a cloth or rag and push them onto the handlebars with a twisting motion. The rotary movement helps with assembly and correct positioning.
- Let the grips dry before riding for the first time and check that they cannot twist. Turn the grips vigorously while standing. It must not be possible to twist them.
After the grips have been successfully installed, theopen handlebar endsmust be closed withbar plugs(sold separately). An open handlebar end poses a risk of injury!

Mounting the bar tape to your handlebar
Follow the steps below to mount the bar tape to your handlebar:
- Remove the old bar tape. Dismantle the bar plugs. Clean the handlebars and remove any adhesive residue. Degrease the handlebars with alcohol (e.g. isopropanol, ethanol).
- Apply the brake cover tape over the handlebar clamp of the shift-brake levers.
- Wrap the bar tape around the handlebars in your desired winding style. One roll is enough for one side of the handlebar.
- Fix the end of the winding near the stem clamp with the enclosed adhesive tape.
After the bar tape has been successfully installed, theopen handlebar endsmust be closed withbar plugs(sold separately). An open handlebar end poses a risk of injury!

Concstruction of the FusePlugs
The FusePlugs are delivered pre-assembled. Only the desired O-ring has to be added for assembly. The following exploded view shows the construction of the FusePlugs: Exploded view FusePlugs
The bar plugs consist of the following components:
- 2x plastic nut
- Counter cone
- Silicone tube
- Cone - in different colors depending on the version
- O-ring - Roadbike: 19x3mm
- Slotted countersunk plastic screw
- Alternative: O-ring - MTB: 19x4mm
Mounting the FusePlugs to your bar ends
The FusePlugs were developed to protect carbon handlebars in the event of a fall with the elastomer buffer. Similar to the crumple zone in modern vehicles, the FusePlugs were designed in such a way that they absorb the forces in the event of a fall and thus protect the handlebars from damage.
Follow these steps to mount the FusePlugs to your bar ends:
- Mount the O-rings of the required size on the fuse plugs.
- Insert FusePlugs into the bar ends. If the bar end is too narrow, the slotted screw in the FusePlug can be slightly unscrewed to reduce the diameter of the plug.
- Tighten the countersunk screw with a suitable screwdriver ¼ to a maximum of 1 turn
It isnot necessary to lubricatethe FusePlugs during assembly!

Assembly preparation

- Check the instructions for your stem for compatibility with the diameter of the handlebar. If your stem is not compatible with the handlebar, the handlebar must not be used!
- Check the stem clamp for sharp edges. If the clamp is sharp-edged, the edges must be broken with a file before assembly in order to avoid damage to the handlebars.
Mounting the handlebar
After completing the assembly preparations with a positive result, follow these steps to mount the handlebar:
- Loosen and remove the front plate of the stem.
- Apply the enclosed assembly paste thinly to the clamping surfaces of the stem. The paste increases the friction and ensures a secure clamping with a lower torque.
- Insert the handlebar into the stem and roughly align it.
- Secure the handlebars against slipping by hand-tightening the front plate screws of the stem.
- Tighten the stem clamp within the foreseen clamping area (rough surface area) according to the manufacturer's specifications. Do not exceed the maximum tightening torque of the handlebar!
- Tighten the shift-brake levers within the foreseen clamping area (rough surface area) according to the manufacturer's specifications. Do not exceed the maximum tightening torque of the handlebar!
- Check the alignment of the handlebars and the shift-brake levers and readjust if necessary.
- Mount bar tape or grips before your first ride to increase comfort.
When mounting the handlebar, under no circumstances should grease be applied in the clamping area!Attaching handlebar attachments is not permitted!Themarkings on the handlebarhelp with symmetrical and repeatable alignment.Our Geweih handlebar is designed for use with thebar-end junction box. It isNOT possible to route cables completely inside the handlebar! Due to the design and the manufacturing process, the interior is not completely continuous. Mounting the ahead cap
The ahead cap is used topretension the headsetand ensures a smooth steering movement. The assembly of the ahead cap must be done with aloose steerer clamping!If the stem is tightened, the headset cannot be preloaded!
Follow these instructions when mounting the ahead cap:
- A spacer (~ 2mm height) should be used between the stem and the ahead cap (see illustration). This ensures that the stem is securely clamped and that the headset can be adjusted.
- When tightening the ahead cap, be careful not to damage the aluminum screw. By carefully adjusting the headset, the correct pretensioning is achieved without damaging the screw. Do not exceed the maximum permissible tightening during assembly!
- After mounting the ahead cap, the stem must be tightened according to the manufacturer's instructions!
The use of a spacer (~ 2mm height) under the ahead cap is necessary toenable correct pretensioningof the headset. If no spacer is used, thecap can rest on the steerer tubeand thus makecorrect pretensioning of the headset impossible!

Mounting the GoPro adaptor to the Porteur
Follow the steps below to mount the GoPro adaptor to your Porteur:
- Loosen and remove the screws of the Garmin holder on the top of the Porteur.
- Insert M2.5 nuts into the recesses of the GoPro adaptor.
- Hold the GoPro adaptor under the Porteur and insert the enclosed screws of the adaptor through the Porteur. Tighten the screws according to the torque specification to fix the adaptor.
- Insert the M5 nut into the recess of the GoPro mount and mount your desired accessory.

Construction of the Porteur
The Porteur comes pre-assembled and is mounted to the stem. The following exploded view shows the construction of the Porteur in its different variants: Exploded view Porteur
Mounting the Porteur to the stem
The Porteur isonly compatible with our Geiles Teil 4.0 stem.Use on other stems is not permitted!
Follow the steps below to mount the Porteur:
- Loosen the handlebar clamping screws on the stem.
- Remove the lower two clamping screws. These are replaced by the M5x23mm screws enclosed with the Porteur.
- Thread the M5x23mm screws through the porter and the front plate of the stem and slightly tighten by hand.
- Tighten the handlebar clamp screws crosswise according to the torque specification. Also refer to the instructions for the stem: Geiles Teil 4.0
- Check the size of the gap on the top and bottom of the handlebar clamp and ensure that the gap size is equal. Repeat assembly if the gap dimensions are different!
- Insert your GPS device into the Porteur by using the quarter-turn-mount.
- Mount the Di2-junction-box or GoPro accessories in the bracket on the underside as required.

- Components must be stored and transported at a temperature of 15-30°C and max. 70% relative humidity.
- Components must not be exposed to direct or indirect sunlight. Ideally, storage and transport take place in a dark place or covered.
- Avoid large temperature fluctuations, e.g. in a car parked in the sun. Torques must be checked again after storage or transport with large temperature differences to ensure proper function.
- Components must be cleaned and checked for proper function before storage. Before the next operation, a new check for functionality must be carried out.
- Wheels should be stored and transported with the tyres fitted. The mounted tyre reduces the spoke tension and thus the load on the hub flange.
- Do not hang up carbon rims or entire bicycles, as the point load can cause permanent damage to the rim.
- Do not hang up stored bicycles by the saddle to reduce the load on the saddle and seat post.
